If your professional development needs extend beyond the offerings on this web site, the Human Resource Development Center can develop a program to meet your specific requirements. Professional Development Planning Services
Human Resource Development Center assistance is available to help your campus, college, department, team, or group to create and implement systematic professional development plans that feature an integrated "package" of customized programs and/or services. Some areas of the University work with the Human Resource Development Center to create and implement annual professional development plans that ensure greater impact at a lower cost. This collaborative process allows you to capitalize on the full range of the Human Resource Development Center's expertise to obtain convenient access to tailored programs and services for achieving you group's strategic priorities. Depending on your group's situation and preferences, professional development planning services may involve any combination of the following components:
- Assessment of professional development and/or organizational development needs
- Development of comprehensive plans that include professional development programs and/or organizational development services
- Coordination of Human Resource Development Center programs and services offered by other Penn State offices of providers to ensure maximum impact
- Evaluation of the impact of professional development programs and services

Facilitation Services
The Human Resource Development Center offers a broad range of facilitation services to help groups make decisions, solve problems, and communicate more effectively. Facilitation enhances groups communication by creating an environment that encourages people to share perspectives and improve understanding. Use facilitation services to ensure that your meetings, retreats, and conferences are both productive and efficient. A skilled facilitator can help your group follow its agenda and avoid the hazards of tangential discussions unnecessary conflict, and emotionally-charged issues. Facilitation services may included by are not limited to:
- Collaborative pre-planning of meeting goals and activities
- Guidance for group discussion, problem-solving, and decision-making
- Mediation to resolve conflicts
- Development of action plans

Team Building Services
The Human Resource Development Center offers training, facilitation, and consulting services to help teams and groups work cooperatively and productively with one another. Customized team building can help your team or group:
- Improve productivity, efficiency, and goal completion
- Establish its mission, goals, and action steps
- Address behaviors and dynamics that may be pulling the group off-track
- Clarify the roles and strengths of each group member
- Improve communication, manage conflict, build consensus, and strengthen collaboration
- Identify group challenges and develop strategies to transform them into opportunities for growth

MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Services
The Human Resource Development Center offers a range of services involving the administration and application of the MBTI® to strengthen working relationships based on individual differences. In general, these services focus on individual and/or group behaviors that impact the achievement of goals in the workplace. In general, MBTI® results can be used to help each group member work more effectively with different types of people. MBTI® services can be tailored to enhance interactions among colleagues, supervisory relationships, as well as interactions with customers and clients. These service, which are led by an MBTI® certified and/or qualified facilitator may include:
- Debriefing of group results to capitalize on strengths and growth opportunities, and to identify action steps in terms of productivity and efficiency
- Individual coaching to capitalize on each person's strengths and growth opportunities, and to identify action steps in terms of decision making

Customer Service Consulting
For units interested in enhancing customer service, the Human Resource Development Center offers a broad range of customized consulting, training, and support services. Services can be tailored to help your unit:
- Define or re-define your unit's customer service vision
- Keep the FISHTM philosophy of customer service alive in your unit [if it has been completed the FISHTM program]
- Resolve ongoing, perplexing customer service issues
- Transform you customer service culture from good to great
- Develop strategies to attract more customers
- Measure your unit's customer service quotient through regularly scheduled customer service audits

Customer Service Audits
For units interested in measuring, monitoring, and improving their customer service, the Human Resource Development Center offers regularly scheduled customer service audits. These audits are particularly useful for units committed to improving student satisfaction. The recommended frequency is twice each year to ensure ongoing improvements and to track progress. Components of the audit include:
- Data collected from front line staff, management, customers and/or other stakeholders
- On-site assessment of your unit's customer service culture, skills, knowledge, and practices
- Off-site quantitative and qualitative analysis of your unit's strengths and improvable areas in terms of customer service
- Deliverable include an executive summary as well as a detailed summary of findings and recommendations for improvement
- At you option, the Human Resource Development Center is available to help you implement recommendations

Creativity and Innovation Services
For units interested in leveraging the power of creativity and innovation, the Human Resource Development Center offers broad range of customized consulting, training, and support services. In general, these services help units address "business challenges" creatively. For example, these services may lead to innovative approaches for reducing costs and increasing efficiency. Services can be tailored to help you unit:
- Strengthen you unit's climate for creativity, innovation, and change
- Develop new services or products that sizzle with success
- Discover and enhance the personal creativity of leaders and managers
- Maintain an entrepreneurial edge in you unit's planning

Support services are available to work units facing organizational change. Services may include training, facilitation, and consulting assistance for:

- Building support for change among employees at all levels

- Improving processes for planning, decision-making, and problem-solving
- Creating communication networks that foster ownership for change at all levels of the organization

Planning Support for Retreats and Meetings
The Human Resource Development Center offers a full range of support services for planning retreats and meetings. The Human Resource Development Center's services can help you to:

- Plan customized sessions and activities that are relevant and engaging

HRDC Lending Services
Faculty and staff may borrow books, videocassettes, and other materials from from The Human Resource Development Center library at no charge.
